Venue, clothes, hashtag, the modern-day wedding essentials

Hashtags on social media is a game changer. Movies and businesses have seen hashtags becoming their most successful marketing executives. Gone are the days when creative hashtags helped only social media campaigns run by a business page. Getting pun-ny
Vaidhya, an associate creative head of an online video channel, reveals she came up with her wedding hashtag. “My wedding’s hashtag was #VaDiKalyanam. Some people prefer to put their names and add wedding to the hashtag, while others prefer to make puns out of their weddinghashtag. My wife and I wanted it to be our names, with a pun. My wife’s name is Divya and I’m Vaidhya. So, we took ‘Va’ from my name and ‘Di’ from her name, and made the hashtag #VaDiKalyanam. Vadi meaning means ‘do come’ in Tamil, and ‘kalyanam’ means wedding, so it worked best,” he says.
The making of a hashtag
These hashtags also play a key role in wedding décor. “#TiFoundTan was the hashtag we used for my best friend Shruti’s wedding. The groom’s name is Chetan, so we thought #TiFoundTan also captured the emotion of them becoming a couple. We had a big wall with this hashtag, which was where we set up the photo booth,” says Akshitha, a digital marketing manager. Need proof that such hashtags make an impact? Just a mention of #DeepVeer, #Nickyanka and #Virushka will do the trick.
Documenting your wedding
Hashtags at weddings is a trend that seems to have a lot to offer. “The process of trying to arrive at a hashtag that cleverly captures the couple’s journey or their names is considered cute. Of course, couples are not looking at marketing their wedding. Hashtags helps them compile all the social media posts uploaded during their wedding,” explains wedding planner Madurya Srikanth.
Specific social media accounts as well
When you have hashtags, why not have social media accounts set up solely for your wedding? This is another step that many couples are taking — accounts dedicated solely to their
wedding. So, what do you think the next trend will be? A mobile app instead of wedding
invitation card? We give this a green thumbs up.
