Name:
Dipanwita Basak

Occupation: Business Analyst

Age: 30 years

Highest weight recorded: 92 kgs

Weight lost: 40 kgs

Duration it took me to lose weight: 15 months

The turning point:
I come from a family of overachievers and always did what was expected out of me. Hence, I did my masters from an esteemed organisation and did not care if I looked like a 40-year-old woman in my 20s. It was only when I attended my cousin’s wedding that I realised there is a world beyond books and studies as well. It was my mother’s words which made me realise that I need to take care of my health as well. That was the point when I started with my weight loss journey.

My breakfast: For my first meal of the day, I have 2 whole eggs, ⅔ egg whites and a bowl of green salad.

My lunch:
Since I count my calories, I eat 200 grams of lean protein and some green salad.

My dinner: I either have fruits or salads with some lean protein.

I indulge in: I would rather have cheat meals than cheat days. By having smaller meals, you can have your cake and eat it too. Simply put, you can enjoy small portions in moderation without damaging your hard-earned progress. I have a sweet tooth, so I love gorging on chocolates and pastries just before my workout.

My workout: Your workout should be tailored to suit your body type, although the basics might remain the same. The one thing I absolutely love is strength training with heavy weights. I also ensure to give proper focus to both my lower and upper body.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I completely vouch on all types of salads minus any dressings. I also love protein shakes.

Fitness secrets I unveiled: There’s no one size that fits all when it comes to fitness. It requires a great amount of discipline and determination to stay right on the fitness track. Hard work has no substitute and it just cannot be replaced.

How do I stay motivated?
The best way to make me do something is to tell me that I cannot do it and I will make sure that I achieve it. I ensure that I stick to my workout routine and stay disciplined.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? First and foremost, I surround myself with like-minded people who believe in me. Secondly, I also keep tabs on athletes on social media to learn more about their latest fitness techniques.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? No matter what the world says, weight is not just a number as it has the capacity to drastically impact your self-esteem and confidence. Losing weight acted as a metamorphosis for me as it transformed me into a more confident version of myself.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I want to be a fitter and healthier version of myself.

What are the lifestyle changes you made? Changing my eating habits was the biggest lifestyle change that I made. Secondly, I had a hard time convincing people around me during social events to understand my eating choices and why I am doing it. It obviously took constant efforts, but it was definitely worth it.

What was the lowest point for you? The lowest point of my life was actually being overweight for all these years.

Lessons learnt from weight loss : As I have said before, there is no substitute for hard work. When you are on a quest to lose weight, you need to put your heart and soul in it and the results will definitely be worth it all.
