02/10The turning point

I love to get clicked and always used to do so. But, during the lockdown, I started to hate the way my photos looked. I noticed visible fat on my face that made me look aged and plum. I used to delete photos or put on filters that could hide my body fat. I couldn’t see myself looking so fat in photos, which I once loved. That was the time I realised I needed to do something about my health.

Lockdown was also a personally challenging time for me. No physical activity, binge eating and a sedentary lifestyle made me pile on kilos. Even though I have always been on the plus side, never before did I lose out on confidence levels this way. I was super comfortable in my skin and loved myself despite the flaws. Now, my lifestyle has changed drastically. I once lived to eat, but now I eat to live.

03/10Diet followed

My breakfast: I skipped breakfast since I was doing 18 hours of intermittent fasting.

My lunch: Roast/ grilled/fried chicken or fish. I followed the Keto diet, so I ate accordingly. I also relished eating paneer tikkas, soybean tikkis, keto dosas (with sambhar), pav bhaji minus the potatoes.

My dinner: Dinners were very light, usually soups and salads or leftover lunch items.

Pre-workout meal: Black Coffee with a few drops of lemon juice.

Post-workout meal: Green tea or Japanese Matcha tea followed by light dinner

I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days):

I used to crave bread a lot. I used to patiently wait until my cheat day to have bread-butter-jam. I also used to eat some form of junk foods or sweets (despite never being a person with a sweet tooth) on my cheat days. I used to cheat on my diet twice or thrice a month and that helped me fight temptations.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Palak soup/ paneer/ grilled chicken/ boiled eggs. You can have these dishes guilt-free, as many times as you would like to.

04/10Workout followed

During the lockdown phase, going to the gym wasn’t an option. I started working out at home by following Youtube workout tutorials. I also used to dance vigorously for at least an hour a day. I used to do this for 5 days a week. Slowly and steadily, my stamina started building up. 3 months in, I started also doing functional training at home by focussing on my target areas.

Nothing happens overnight. Slow and steady wins the race. Intermittent Fasting should also be a ritual people should follow. Following Keto also did wonders for me.

I also follow water fasting once a week and would recommend fellow weight watchers to do so too.

Discipline and dedication have a major role to play. All my life, I have never been as motivated as I was to change this time around. Staying positive is the key to healthy weight loss.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?

Honestly, when you have been plump all your life, it’s easy for your focus to waver. Temptations will always be there. As they say, old habits die hard. The only thing that keeps a person motivated is compliments and inspiring thoughts. I share my weight loss accomplishments. Since I am a hotelier, I try out fusion foods and share weight-loss-friendly recipes with people. Some of them are fighting PCOD, Diabetes. By staying positive and motivating them, I stay inspired too. I now see myself as a role model for people who feel they are lazy or don’t have time to workout. If I can lose weight, so can they.
