Indian banks to gain $36 billion in deposits as funds get taxed

India’s decision to tax returns from certain types of fixed-income mutual funds will help banks attract as much as $36bn in deposits from asset managers, according to Indian Banks’ Association. The announcement will come as a relief to financial institutions struggling with a widening gap between credit off-take and deposits.
