Grounded fleet: PW engine troubles mount for IndiGo

Jet engine-maker Pratt & Whitney (PW) has warned IndiGo that a powder metal contamination issue could result in a significant number of aircraft being grounded in the first quarter of 2024. Already, around 50 IndiGo planes have been grounded due to the issue, and this number could rise to over 80 next year. The grounding of planes could lead to a capacity crunch, potentially causing an increase in airfares. PW’s GTF engines have been plagued by problems for several years, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered PW to establish an MRO facility in India.
