The Bombay High Court has ruled in favor of Vodafone Idea Limited, stating that an assessment order passed by the Faceless Assessing Officer two years after directions issued by a dispute resolution panel were “time barred” and unsustainable. The court directed the Income Tax authorities to refund over Rs 1128 crore in taxes paid by Vodafone Idea for the assessment year 2016-17, with interest. The court also recommended a detailed inquiry against the officer responsible for the delay and emphasized the importance of adhering to the statutory time limits.
