A total of Rs 13.7 lakh crore worth direct taxes (net) have been collected so far in current financial year 2023-24, representing a 20.66 per cent increase on a yearly basis, according to provisional figures put out by the government. The collections were to the tune of Rs 11.3 lakh crore in the corresponding period of the preceding year 2022-23. The net direct tax collection of Rs 13.7 has been collected, including corporation tax (CIT) at Rs 6.9 lakh crore (net of refund) and personal income tax (PIT) including securities transaction tax (STT) at Rs 6,72,962 crore (net of refund).
