Fashion’s elite has descended on Hyères, the small town in the south of France that hosts the Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography each year. In between the runway shows and the award ceremonies, the festival is packed with talks between some of the most creative minds in both industries. This morning, Yohji Yamamoto sat down with French director Christophe Honoré to talk about his future plans.
Though Yamamoto said he doesn’t like designing costumes, and that he’s hired someone else to write the script, the designer did admit to working on the development of his first film. According to WWD‘s report from the panel, he said, “It’s very secret,” but did promise that he’ll direct the feature. Of course, if he’s not going to design the costumes for his own film, that job will go to someone else, someone who will have to live up to Yamamoto’s high expectations. It sounds like bad costume design is a major pet peeve of the Japanese designer’s: “Have you ever experienced after starting to watch a movie that because of the ugly costumes, you cannot keep on watching? Have you ever experienced that? I have a lot.”
Yamamoto says the movie will be finished in two years.
