Azealia Banks has captured the attention of Lady Gaga’s stylist Nicola Formichetti, performed for Karl Lagerfeld, and attended the Met Ball with Alexander Wang—all without releasing an album. That’s soon to be rectified—her first EP, 1991 (after her year of birth), drops digitally May 29 and includes four tracks: “1991,” “Van Vogue,” the already popular “212″ (its video has netted 15 million views), and “Liquorice.” While Banks seems to be channeling a little Grace Jones on 1991‘s cover, it was Formichetti she tapped to direct her upcoming “Liquorice” music video in London.
Banks is also ramping up to release her Fantastic mixtape this summer—she previewed the first track off of that, the Calypso-tinged “Jumanji,” last week (listen after the cut). And she’s aiming to release her major label debut, Broke With Expensive Taste, this fall.
