COVID-19: Precautions to take this Holi


Around the same time, last year, the COVID situation worsened, which led to a lockdown. In this one year, many mutations have taken place in the coronavirus. While the vaccination drive is in full swing, we still have a long way to go.

Right now, India is facing the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, with a daily caseload crossing the 50,000 marks. What has still not changed is the advice of the health experts on how to stay safe during Holi. Health authorities and experts are worried about the possibility that if people do not adhere to the COVID-19 protocol, the festival may turn into a super-spreader event.

02/11​Inviting people

Do not invite people from outside to celebrate the festival at your home. You can never be sure if someone you are meeting is safe from the COVID infection.

Do not celebrate the festival with a big congregation, where people with unknown travel history may also be present.

We know it’s hard to celebrate the festival without your loved ones. But for the safety of everyone, do not leave your current place to celebrate Holi. Do not use public transport.

05/11​Do not participate in a procession

Do not be a part of any procession during the festival time. State governments at many places have imposed a ban on taking out a procession. Do not gather around the pyre to celebrate Holika Dahan.

It is suggested people with symptoms of cold and flu must not take part in any celebration, even if the symptoms are mild.

07/11​Wash your hands and bathe

If you have to go out for anything urgent, make sure to wash your hands and bathe properly after you come back.

Avoid handshakes and hugging during the celebrations. Say Namastey as advised by the health experts during the early days of the pandemic.

People who are above 60 or have comorbidities must not go out at any cost during this time. Even kids below the age of 10 should stay at home.

Do not forget to wear your facemask whenever you step out of the house. No matter how close friends or family members you are meeting, make sure to put on your mask all the time.

Make sure to wash your hands frequently or if there is no provision for it, you can use a sanitiser with at least 70 per cent alcohol.
