When you are overweight, it not only impacts your physical health but also heavily affects your mental well being. When 18-year-old Aarav realised that all the extra kilos were impacting his self-confidence, he decided to bring about the necessary changes to get back in shape. In a span of just 7 months, he lost a whopping 28 kilos by adopting a healthy lifestyle. Here is his weight loss journey.
Name: Aarav Arora
Occupation: Student
Age: 18 years
Height: 5 feet 7 inches
City: Delhi
Highest weight recorded: 108 kg
Weight lost: 28 kg
Duration it took me to lose weight: 7 months
The turning point: When you are overweight, you are always under confident as everybody tends to make you feel different. You are scared of attending social gatherings because you don’t want to draw unwanted attention towards yourself. All the taunts and unsolicited comments further bring down your morale. Hence, I decided one day that this is not the life I wanted to lead. I wanted to become a confident and healthy person, so I decided to work in that direction. It was certainly not easy, but definitely worth it.
My breakfast: A bowl of oats with milk
My lunch: 2 chapattis with 1 bowl of dal and a portion of salad
My dinner: 3-4 boiled egg whites
Pre-workout meal: 2 slices of brown bread with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
Post-workout meal: 10 almonds,10 walnuts and coconut water
I indulge in: I either have a slice of pizza or ice cream on my cheat days
My workout: I have divided my workout routine as follows:
1. Monday (Chest and Abs)
2. Tuesday (Back)
3. Wednesday (Biceps and Sides)
4. Thursday (Shoulders)
5. Friday (Triceps +Abs)
6. Saturday (Legs)
7. Sunday (Rest)
Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I vouch on boiled soya chunks.
Fitness secrets I unveiled: Good diet and sound sleep are non-negotiable aspects of your weight loss journey. Always focus on your own goals rather than comparing yourself with others and getting demotivated. Most of all, work as hard as possible on your journey to lose weight, you won’t regret it.
How do I stay motivated? It was definitely the support of my parents and friends which keep me going. Taunts of certain friends also worked as a source of motivation for me as I continued to work on my dream of becoming fit from fat.
How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? I absolutely love my new lifestyle and I will do everything in my power to stay in the same shape.
What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? It was definitely the taunts and unsolicited comments of relatives, students of my school and even the teachers. It had left me feeling demotivated and depressed.
Lessons learnt from weight loss: I have realised that knowledge is indeed the power which will help you get fit as you learn more and more about nutrition and the right dietary choices. You need to understand that people will try and demotivate you, but you should not step back. Instead, keep going on and prove them wrong. Make sure to enjoy every bit of your journey.
