Q. What can you reveal about Srilaaji: A diary of a Marwari dowager

Very little! All I can say is that Srilaaji is sitting inside my head… on it, too! And as good as dictating her story to me. I can see her, hear her, sense her, and I love her…she has aaraam se crossed the fiction threshold and become frighteningly real to me

Q. What inspired the book and the protagonist

I was all set to write a completely different book. Non-fiction, at that. All of a sudden, Srilaaji appeared’. I was in the shower and her voice was unmistakable. She scolded me! What nonsense! How can you even think of writing some other book? Write about me! That was it

Q. What kind of a world will it be set in

It is a world I have observed over 45 years. I have been friends with three generations of extremely fascinating Marwari ladies. It is a closed, secretive society on many levels. The Marwari man is far easier to decode. The Marwari woman is something else.
