With one of Yves Klein’s better-known pieces about to go up for auction, Christie’s has a lot to celebrate, and what better way than to call upon January Jones? Last night, in preparation for their Post War & Contemporary auction, Christie’s teamed up with the Mad Men-actress, Oceana, and La Mer to host a screening of La Revolution Bleu—a documentary produced by Paris’s Centre Pompidou that chronicles Klein’s ascent to art-world hero.
Jones, who is an Oceana ambassador, wore a sharp Mary Katrantzou dress and talked about setting her sights on educating the public about oceanic conservation, specifically when it comes to sharks. ”I am just obsessed with sharks,” she said, “they are magical creatures and when I found out that they are highly endangered it was a no brainer for me to go out and help.” Though Jones is realistic, “It’s been kind of difficult because there are no cute cuddly babies to show people and say, ‘save these guys,’ they all look rather toothy, but we’ve managed to get a lot done.”
An hour later, the sharks’ afflictions were played out on-screen as part of a separate short film provided by Oceana, that included footage of fisherman removing their fins for consumption, only to throw the animals’ mutilated bodies back into the water. It brought the actress’s plight to life, despite the animal’s razor-sharp smile.
