Loan scam: Another IAS officer under scanner

The list of bureaucrats under the scanner for corruption in Madhya Pradesh is only getting longer. Currently 35 officers in the state are being investigated for corruption.

Now the Supreme Court has ordered the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the state to probe corruption charges against a high profile IAS officer and the health secretary of Madhya Pradesh, S R Mohanty, in a whopping Rs 719 crore scam.

Between 1994 and 2000, when Digvijaya Singh was the Chief Minister, the state industrial development corporation gave 719 crores as loans to 42 companies but did not insist on guarantee. Now the amount due from the defaulters with interest stands at nearly Rs 2200 crore.
