Ghaziabad-based Vibhor Bhardwaj tested COVID positive and stayed in isolation for a little over 14 days. Here is how his body responded to the virus and how he fought it
14 days of #isolation – from being #CoronaPositive to #CoronaNegative
It all started with fever on 4th August midnight around 2AM, further adding to extreme fatigue on 4th early morning. I immediately isolated myself in a room to ensure others don’t catch it from me. It was like some sudden change happening overnight. I was advised for 2 days’ rest and isolation as there were chances of it being a viral infection. However, when there was no improvement, I went for a corona test on 6th, which came positive on 7th morning. I received a call from DM control room stating that team shall be coming to my house very soon. I was told that depending on the situation, they might approve home quarantine or may take me to a COVID isolation centre. Those 2 hours were like waiting for your board exams result after entering the roll number on the website… and then imagine the internet to go off!
After the team visited me, I got permission for home quarantine with a list of things to do. I was also told they shall be checking on me on a daily basis. A notice was pasted outside the house restricting for movement. Family members were also home isolated for 7 days; these 7 days were tough as even a small sneeze created tension. My son told me over the phone, “Papa khoob saari medicine lelo, phir app thik ho jaoge”.
Coronavirus symptoms started to appear one after another – fever to tiredness, nose block, then cough with dry throat and at last body rashes. Lying on the bed at one corner of the house with no access to family was difficult. All our conversations were happening either on WhatsApp or over call. It felt like a jail; I had to place plate and bottle outside the room and then the family would add food and water. Thankfully I had a reliable internet connection, which helped me stay connected with others. After 3 days, I also lost my sense of smell and taste. I started to feel soe exhausted that I couldn’t even watch mobile or laptop for longer hours. It all continued till 18th and that was the first day after more than two weeks when I did not have fever. Meanwhile, I was getting continuous calls / visits from DM / health control room for checking on me.
On 22nd I had to go for a corona retest. I gave my sample and on 24th afternoon I was told I have tested negative. No words can express how relieved I felt in getting a NEGATIVE test.
Here are some things that I would like to share with everyone:
1. Be positive, don’t listen to negative thoughts. Do yoga for 30 mins (Morning and evening).
2. Take steam (4-5 times a day) and Kada (only once in a day, you might have stomach issues later in case you are taking it more number of times).
3. Go as per your doctor, with the medicines that are being prescribed.
4. Do not blindly believe tips you get on calls and messages. Focus on what you have been asked to do.
5. Do not believe any news or article as nothing is true at this point of time, everything we know about the virus is not entirely true – the virus is still being researched.
6. Keep thermometer and oximeter with you to monitor temperature and oxygen level as oxygen levels can go down suddenly in Corona at any point in time
7. Drink a lot of hot water, take fruits at least 2 times a day and have high protein diet.
