No Holds Barred | Vinesh Phogat Q&A

Q. From that injury at the Rio Olympics in 2016 to qualifying for Tokyo, what’s the journey been like?

It was harder for me to recover mentally than physically. The 2-3 months post-injury were tough. I would be in tears every day, a lot of pent up anger inside me. But I dealt with the emotions within the confines of my room.

Q. How was the transition to the 53 kg category?

It was something I had planned for after the Tokyo Olympics, but my coach (Woller Akos) thought otherwise. The first few weeks were hard; I was in the same mental state as after my injury. Q. Have you started training again?

I’m just doing rehab exercises these days and catching up on movies. I watched 3 Idiots a few days ago. The next one is where Ranbir Kapoor plays a singer (Rockstar)-I am told it’s a good one!
