01/4People of this age group have seven times more antibodies than others
The emergence of new coronavirus variants has raised questions about the efficacy of vaccines being administered against the deadly virus. Cases have emerged where even fully vaccinated people have tested positive for Delta and Lambda variants of COVID.
The truth is that vaccines never provide complete protection against the virus. They produce antibodies that help the body fight the virus after coming in contact with it. Some vaccines are effective even on variants, while others do not provide much protection. It is quite difficult to say whose body has more antibodies after getting vaccinated or who are more prone to being infected. But a study carried out on this topic lately revealed that the immune response to the virus depends on several factors, and one is your age.

02/4Who has more antibodies?
According to the study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, younger individuals have more antibodies than older people. The research carried out by the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) examined 50 participants who had got their second dose of Pfizer vaccine two weeks ago. They divided the participants according to their age, then tested their blood serum for antibodies produced by the original coronavirus strain and one variant.

03/4What did the study reveal?
The findings of the study revealed that those in their 20s had antibody responses that were seven times stronger than people above 70. The data collected from the study indicated a linear progression of low antibody levels from younger to older participants. The difference was wider between participants in their 20s and 70s.

04/4Is this a matter of concern?
The co-author of the study explained that although the antibody response level is low among older adults, still getting vaccinated is important. Vaccination is the only way to stay safe and reduce the risk of complications against the virus. As compared to natural infection, vaccination provides a stronger antibody response in older adults. In any case, getting the vaccine is the only way to protect against serious COVID complications. Vaccination is particularly important for older adults because their immune system is low and they need more protection.
