The workout this guy followed to lose 30 kgs!

When you have been battling excess weight all your life, it really shatters your confidence. 24-year-old Mukesh faced a lot of medical issues and wasn’t even able to find clothes of his choice, all thanks to his excess weight. An epiphany during his sister’s wedding actually changed his life for good. Read on to know his weight loss journey, which is an inspiration for anyone who is trying to shed those stubborn kilos.

Name: Mukesh Tekchandani

Age: 24 years

Height: 5 ft 11 inch

Highest weight recorded: 122 kgs

Weight lost: 30 kgs

Duration it took me to lose weight: 9 months

The turning point: I was facing several medical conditions including severe knee pain and lumbar spine issues. The worst part about being overweight was definitely not being able to get clothes of my choice for my sister’s wedding. It was really heartbreaking and made me realise that it was time that I started taking my health seriously.

My breakfast: I begin my day at 7 in the morning with a handful of dry fruits, one cup of milk tea and 4 diet-friendly biscuits.

My lunch: A portion of green vegetables, some paneer and chicken with one jowar (sorghum) chapati.

My dinner: I make it a point to have my dinner around 7 to 7:30 pm. I have a light meal which consists of either a bowl of daal or diet bhel and one egg boiled egg.

I indulge in: For the initial 6 months, I did not have a single cheat day. I also made sure that even if I ate any junk food, I balanced it out the next day with a light dinner or lunch.

My workout: Day time: 2 hours of functional and cardio workout in the gym. Night time: 45 minutes of running and walking

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Unlike a lot of people, I don’t prefer salads. Instead, I eat oats or a handful of dry fruits whenever I crave for something.

Pre and post-workout meals: I eat an apple before working out. Afterwards, I have a glass of warm water and a bowl of clear broccoli soup.

Fitness secrets I unveiled: You don’t really need a zillion different types of shakes to stay energetic. Keep your diet healthy and your workout heavy. Weight loss is basically 70 per cent diet and 30 per cent workout, so act accordingly.

How do I stay motivated? I ensure that I meet those friends and relatives, whom I haven’t seen in a while so that they can immediately notice the difference in my weight and appearance. It makes me feel really good and motivates me to push harder towards my goal.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? Every morning, the first thing that I do after getting up is to check my weight. This is to ensure that if it ever increases, I can keep a tab on what I eat and stay focussed.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? I was not able to buy the clothes of my choice because of all the excess weight. Secondly, I also feel that being overweight makes you look like a panda instead of a human when you get a picture clicked.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I want to have a perfectly lean body with a killer set of abs.

What are the lifestyle changes you made? There are two lifestyle changes which I made and I still follow them very strictly. Number one is to keep a close tab on my calorie intake by controlling my diet. Secondly, I make sure that I sleep on time and wake up early, no matter what happens.

What was the lowest point for you? When I had started my weight loss quest, I could see a drastic change in my weight but after a couple of months, the number on my weighing scale became static and did not budge at all. That was the point I felt really low and unmotivated.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: I have realised that being healthy instils a sense of confidence in you, which does not come from anything else. Leading a healthy life is crucial for being happy and there is no shortcut to it.
