Weighing a massive 131 kilos, Abhishek Johri’s quality of life was rapidly deteriorating. Slowly, he realised that he needed to change his ways to lead a more fulfilling and healthy life. From changing his lifestyle completely to going for a walk regularly, he reclaimed his life. Read on his incredibly motivating journey to get inspired.

Duration it took me to lose weight: 12 months

The turning point: I used to be really irritated because I wasn’t able to wear the clothes of my choice and had to listen to unsolicited comments. However, battling health conditions like high blood pressure made me realise that it was time to lose weight. I knew I needed to do something before it was too late.

My breakfast: One slice of brown bread, 3 boiled egg whites and a cup of black coffee

My lunch: 1 chapati, 1 bowl of dal, a small portion of tofu and 50 grams of boiled chicken

My dinner: I choose from the following for my last meal of the day:
1.A bowl of soup
2.A portion of tofu
3.Boiled chicken
4.Grilled fish

Pre-workout meal: 1 cup of black coffee

Post- workout meal: I do not have anything post my workout

I indulge in: Since I am a sweet tooth, I love eating chocolates and sweets on my cheat day.

My workout: My workout routine is really simple. I make it a point to walk or jog for an hour daily.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I vouch on grilled fish and masala tofu

Fitness secrets I unveiled: I have realised that there is nothing that you cannot achieve if you put your heart and soul into it. I was extremely dedicated to my weight loss journey and the results are motivating enough.

How do I stay motivated?
To ensure that I did not lose focus, I used to post my weight loss journey on social media. The comments and likes from people keep me highly motivated. Furthermore, I can now buy fashionable clothes of my size which acts as a huge confidence booster.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?
While there were a lot of factors which ensured that I stayed focused, there is nothing like looking at your old picture and realising how far you’ve come. Whenever I felt a little demotivated, I look at my old photographs when I used to weight 131 kilos.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? There were so many things that happened on a daily basis that used to bog me down. In addition to not being able to wear good clothes, I lost my confidence as well. However, the worst part was when people used to say that I might die soon because of my weight.


What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?
I just want to fit into 32-size jeans and that is all.

What are the lifestyle changes you made? I made a lot of lifestyle changes in order to get back in shape. I completely left alcohol, cold drinks, ice creams, fried and junk food. I also started drinking 5 litres of water daily.

What was the lowest point for you? It was definitely the point when I was stuck at a massive 100 kilos for 1 month. No matter how hard I tried to shed those stubborn kilos, it was just not happening.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: The biggest takeaway from my weight loss journey has been that no one can stop you if you are determined enough. I have realised that you can achieve anything if you are focussed and disciplined.
