This guy lost a massive 4 kilos in just one year! Here’s how

While every weight loss account is an inspiration in itself, Siddharth’s journey from a massive 151 kilos to a healthy 77 kilos is on a whole different level. From reserving just his birthday as a cheat day to finally being able to fit into a shirt of his liking, his journey is incredibly motivating.
Name: Siddharth Malhotra

Occupation:
Post-graduate Student

Age:
24 years

Highest weight recorded:
151.2 kg

Weight lost:
74.2 kg

Duration it took me to lose weight: 1 year

The turning point: Right before deciding to lose weight, I wanted to buy a new shirt. I remember going into different shops, but sadly, the shopkeepers laughed at me because there were no shirts in my size. That one incident was deeply humiliating. It was a really depressing point in my life. This is when I decided to control that one aspect in my life which was still in my hands i.e. my body. After getting back in shape, I went back to that shop. While the shopkeeper didn’t recognize me, I smiled and said, “Give me your best jeans in size 32.”

My breakfast:
The first thing I have after waking up is a glass of lemon water and some flax seeds. After half an hour, I usually have 2 egg whites and an unbuttered, brown bread toast. An hour later, I have a cup of coffee.

My lunch:
2 stuffed chapatis with vegetables and a bowl of curd.

My dinner: For my last meal of the day, I stick to salt-free dinner like a banana shake or boiled vegetables.

I indulge in:
To be honest, during the one year I was battling to lose weight, I only took one cheat day which was on my birthday. Now that I have reached my ideal weight, I love having pizza once in a month.

My workout: When I weighed a massive 150 kilos, I couldn’t really move a lot in the gym. My goal was to burn 350-400 calories by doing cardio.

Eventually, as I started getting fitter, I raised my target to burn 500 calories. When I could start running properly, I incorporated strength training into my workout.

In the beginning, I worked out for 45 minutes to 1 hour for 5 days a week. When I touched 120 kilos, I started working out 6 times a week for one hour every day.

After I hit 95-80 kilos, I started doing intense cardio and strength training 6 times a week for 1 hour 30 minutes a day, burning close to 900-950 calories.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I absolutely love well-made salads, grilled chicken and grilled fish with light seasoning.

Fitness secrets I unveiled: I have realised that it is essential that you listen to what your body is saying. Secondly, make it a point to give enough rest to your body because it is as important as working out.

How do I stay motivated?
I honestly believe that if someone really wants something and is willing to go the extra mile for the same, the universe will conspire to help you achieve it. This saying keeps me going.

How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?
I always try to keep the weight loss goal in my mind and never really lose sight of the finish line. While on some days, you might not be able to see visible results, you need to remember that it is a process and you should always give your 100 per cent to the same.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?

People commenting on your weight is always incredibly difficult to deal with. Apart from the fact that basic activities like walking becomes really difficult, such negative comments are extremely demotivating.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?
I envision a fitter and better version of me in the future. I want to work and achieve the best version possible of my body.

What are the lifestyle changes you made?

I realised that my habit of eating late was the major cause of weight gain, as opposed to my eating habits. As a result, I do not eat anything after 7:30 in the evening. Infact, I usually cook my own meals and avoid eating anything from outside.

What was the lowest point for you? The unsolicited and heartbreaking comments on my weight were obviously a lot to deal with. Moreover, the humiliation I faced while I went looking for a shirt in my size was something that pushed me to lose weight.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: I have realised that hard work and discipline are bound to get you the desired results. Your body is a temple, you need to treat it well.
