02/7The turning point
I have been overweight since I was a small child. But it hasn’t been easy. I was the centre of jokes.
I actually NEVER tried to lose weight but felt super humiliated of how I looked. I had to buy size 2XL clothes as a teen! It got difficult buying clothes in local markets and had to resort to online plus-size stores. After buying 2-3 dresses, I realized they didn’t look good on me.
Plus, diabetes is hereditary in my family and I was pre-diabetic. I had Acanthosis Nigericans, a symptom of diabetes. It was early stage and the only way I could manage it was by losing weight. So, that was the time I took fitness seriously and proved myself in front of friends and relatives who used to make fun of me for my size! I was strongly determined to lose weight!

03/7Diet and workout followed
My breakfast:
I used to have a glass of milk/ vegetable oats/ upma/ besan chilla/ vermicelli/ paneer roti/ egg whites omelette on a regular basis.
My lunch: Any green sabzi made at home, with curd and salad, along with one chapati.
My dinner: Super light and easy. I used to choose between clear vegetable soup, vegetable oats, sandwich or paneer chat.
Pre-workout meal: 2 Boiled Egg whites or Fruits
Post-workout meal: My Lunch, since I used to workout before lunchtime.
I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days):I love eating dosa, chole bhature, noodles and momos and try to have them in little quantities on my cheat days. But, even then, I try my best to stick to homemade food.
My workout: My exercise regime was strictly home-based as I didn’t go to any gym. It wasn’t fixed but consisted of a combination of treadmill running (3-4 km), full-body workout moves, and some to target thigh and arm fat.
I also follow the K-Pop dance workout, which is my all-time favourite. Super engaging.
Also, I used to work out for 1.5-2 hours, five days a week. Two days rest for my sore muscles to recover.
Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Throughout these six months, my total calorie intake stayed between 1200-1400 calories. So, I used to have a lot of low-calorie meals such as poha, chilla, and some healthy versions of my favourite junk food (steamed wheat momos, paneer tikka wrap, bhel puri with no ketchup and loads of veggies). Of course, all usually homemade.

04/7Fitness secrets unveiled
Weight loss isn’t a magic formula but simple science.
To lose weight, it’s important to follow a calorie deficit and no one can achieve his or her dream physique by drinking special ‘weight loss drinks’ alone and have junk food.
And no, you don’t always have to buy imported special fruits or veggies or go to the gym. One needs to be committed towards their goal and be honest with themselves, that’s all.
Weight loss has also taught me the core value of fitness. It’s imperative for everybody to learn and once you do, it reflects on you. I was self-conscious of my looks and you should look at me today 🙂

05/7How do you stay motivated?
I stayed motivated by observing gradual changes and fluctuations in my weight through the journey. My family has been a great motivator too, helping me achieve my goals.
How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?
I used to dream about the end results, and how I would look after all the hard work. Watching inspirational videos and transformations online also helped. This keeps me aligned with my goals.
What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?
The most difficult part is not the self-consciousness, but how people judge and shame you for your body shape. Also, it’s difficult to find clothes your size.
What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?
I want to achieve 11-line abs, follow intensive weight training exercises to strengthen my muscles and make them toned. I feel very positive and inspired that I can make this happen!

06/7What lifestyle changes did you make?
-I started drinking more water
-I have healthier beverages to strengthen my metabolism- drinks like green tea, jeera (cumin) water, chia seeds water and black coffee.
-Cut down on cold drinks, sugar, refined flour and had more of green leafy vegetables, fruits.
-I started carving out time for my workout, which was difficult to balance along with studies.
What was the lowest point for you?
Once, I remember being on the verge of giving up on my transformation since I wasn’t seeing a visible difference (even though I was losing weight), as I am not much of an exercise person. But I am glad I didn’t because it got me to where I am now.

07/7Lessons learnt from weight loss
The most important part has been the realization of my self-worth. I gained a lot of confidence and no longer compare myself, or feel less important than others.
It also taught me discipline, the value of hard work and will power.
I’m thankful, that I could achieve what I wanted! 🙂
