“Lifetime ban“ on convicted lawmakers: SC to hear petition filed by BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay

The Supreme Court will on Thursday hear the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashwani Upadhyay, seeking a lifetime ban on convicted and chargesheeted Member of Parliaments and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MPs and MLAs), instead of the current six-year bar on contesting the polls.
