Actor Shweta Tripathi has completed shooting for Mirzapur: The Movie, the big-screen adaptation of the popular web series Mirzapur. The film marks one of the early instances of a successful Indian streaming series being expanded into a feature-length theatrical release.
Tripathi, best known for her portrayal of Gajagamini aka Golu Gupta, wrapped up an important filming schedule for the project in Mumbai. The role has been a defining one in her career, shifting her screen image from lighter, everyday characters to a more assertive and complex presence.
Mirzapur: The Movie brings together several familiar faces from the original series, including Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Divyendu Sharma, Abhishek Banerjee, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Shweta Tripathi. The film is directed by Gurmeet Singh and produced by Excel Entertainment.
Speaking to Zoom, Shweta Tripathi reflected on completing her portion of the shoot and revisiting the character that audiences closely associate her with. “Wrapping up the film in Mumbai feels special and emotional. Golu Gupta has given me a voice and a strength that I will always be thankful for,” she said.
Tripathi also spoke about the transition of Mirzapur from a digital format to the big screen. According to her, the scale may have changed, but the emotional connection to the characters remains the same. “Bringing this world to cinemas is exciting because the audience’s attachment to these characters has always been strong,” she added.
The actor further mentioned that reuniting with the cast, particularly Ali Fazal, made the experience familiar yet different. “It felt like returning to a character I know well, but with a new energy and perspective,” she noted.
With filming progressing steadily, Mirzapur: The Movie aims to extend the narrative of the series while retaining the tone and characters that viewers have followed over multiple seasons. The film is expected to release theatrically at a later date.
