Transport minister Nitin Gadkari expressed dismay over the high rate of road accident fatalities in India, deeming it a governmental failure. He noted that around 1.7 lakh people died in five lakh accidents, mainly aged 18-36 years. Gadkari cited the lack of respect for traffic rules as a key issue contributing to this problem.
