Oleksandr Usyk has been forced to pull out of the Maryland showdown on May 25.

Oleksandr Usyk has been forced to postpone his heavyweight debut against Carlos Takam due to injury, according to promoter Eddie Hearn.

The bout, which was set to take place at the MGM National Harbor in Maryland on May 25, has been cancelled due to the 32-year-old suffering a bicep injury.

Usyk was the dominant force in the cruiserweight division over the last 18 months, culminating with a commanding win over Murat Gassiev in July to become the undisputed champion and the winner of the inaugural World Boxing Super Series.

His scheduled opponent Takam challenged Anthony Joshua for the IBF, WBA and IBO world titles in October 2017, taking the Briton 10 rounds, and recently starred in a fight-of-the-year contender with Derek Chisora in July 2018.

Hearn tweeted to confirm the postponement, saying that an announcement on the Maryland show will be made shortly.
